iHeart New York’s Q104.3 today announced a five-year contract extension for Radio Hall of Famer Jim Kerr, securing his place in the station’s morning drive slot and further cementing his legacy as New York’s longest-running morning radio host.
A beloved and enduring voice in the city, Kerr joined Q104.3 in January 2002 and has now been on the air in New York for more than 50 years. His remarkable tenure makes him one of the most recognizable and trusted figures in New York broadcasting history.
The new agreement ensures that Kerr will continue to wake up the tri-state area each weekday morning for the next five years, strengthening his already unparalleled connection with generations of listeners.
Kerr’s broadcasting journey began at just 14 years old in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He went on to work at stations in Chicago, Detroit, and Orlando before building an extraordinary career in New York City, where he worked at six different stations prior to joining Q104.3. Over the decades, his warmth, humor, and authenticity have made him a defining presence on the New York airwaves.
Bob Pittman, Chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia, praised Kerr as “legendary,” highlighting his deep bond with listeners and his lasting impact on both the industry and the city. “Jim’s connection with his audience is extraordinary. He’s not just a radio host — he’s part of New York’s daily life.”
Thea Mitchem, EVP of Programming for iHeartMedia, added, “Jim Kerr is synonymous with New York radio. His passion for broadcasting and his genuine connection with audiences have made him an institution in this city.”
Reflecting on the extension, Kerr shared heartfelt gratitude for his decades-long career. “I’ve been lucky enough to live out my childhood dream of being a morning radio host,” he said. “To connect with listeners in their cars, homes, and workplaces every single day — there’s nothing more rewarding. I’m grateful for every moment and excited for what’s ahead.”
