Here is the locker room exchange between Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen and Jacksonville Free Press reporter/editor Lynn Jones-Turpin. Were the comments made by Jones professional? Many in the media industry said they were not journalistic including Jemele Hill. Why is she getting dragged? It seems that when Hill learned that Jones-Turpin was a black woman; Hill turned into a fan of her work. Jemele you have to do better. She explains herself on the YouTube clip below.
This was Jemele Hill’s initial response to a tweet send out on social media by NFL and ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.
Hill backed off comments after learning that Jones was a long time reporter for the Black owned newspaper in Jacksonville, Florida. After her first tweet she followed it up with tweets defending her stance on the viral moment and outright asked for everyone to support the Jacksonville Free Press.
Here are some subsequent tweets that tell a different story from Jemele Hill.
Lynn Jones was interviewed today on local television about the viral moment and her reasoning behind the encouraging comments she offered to the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach following their defeat in the NFL playoffs to the Buffalo Bills.
UPDATE: Jemele Hill publicly apologizes to Lynn Jones via YouTube – original post continues below…
Jemele Hill went to YouTube to defend herself and to answer the critics who had a big problem with how she responded to Lynn Jones and her viral interaction with Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen.
If you know anything about how the media reacts inside professional sports locker rooms and the unkind things they say about professional athletes behind their back among the “old boys network”, and how miserable some of them are, and how they take the opportunity to write negative things about the players that they are suppose to be objective about every chance they get ; then you would welcome the comments by this reporter. All in all we’re a fan of Lynn Jones.
