94.7 The Block Set to Make Announcement on January 5- Will it be Ebro in the Morning?

“??????????????? Happy Holidays @947theblock” is the message 94.7 The Block posted across its social media platforms to tease an upcoming announcement scheduled for Monday, January 5, 2026, at 6:00 a.m.

Updated post- 12.27.25: Dr. Dave’s (the imaging voice of 94.7 The Block) teaser suggests that the new morning show has already been written in the stars… (Would it be a reach to think of one particular former New York morning radio host? Nah… no way.) Original post continues below.

What We Know So Far

Earlier today, 94.7 The Block hinted at a new morning show following the exit of Jonesy in the Morning. After the departures of both Jonesy and hip-hop radio/TV legend Ed Lover, there has been ongoing speculation that the Audacy-owned station might flip formats. However, this teaser suggests a reboot of morning drive rather than a full format change.

Listener speculation on social media has centered on a possible return of Ebro in the Morning to 94.7 The Block. That scenario, however, raises questions. The socially and politically driven commentary that defined Ebro in the Morning on Hot 97 would not easily align with The Block’s more music-intensive format or Audacy’s overall corporate tone. Additionally, Ebro currently holds a corporate role and host a show on Apple Music, while co-host Peter Rosenberg is an afternoon host on ESPN New York 880—direct competition to Audacy’s sports station, WFAN The Fan.

Social Media Reaction

The teaser itself sparked mixed reactions. A well known New York media personality commented on Instagram, “Who’s the marketing genius that thought posting the ‘Trayvon Martin hoodie’ was a good idea?” Many listeners also expressed frustration over having to wait until January 5 for details.

That delay, however, follows a long-standing radio tradition: tease first, reveal later.

The Ebro Factor and the Podcast Debate

Meanwhile, Joe Budden weighed in on a recent podcast, suggesting that the new Ebro, Laura, Rosenberg show should have taken time off before launching their YouTube version. What Budden is overlooking is that Ebro’s traditional morning radio audience doesn’t necessarily overlap with the typical podcast or YouTube subscriber base.

Morning radio is a different experience from on-demand listening. Ebro’s plan is to go live at 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with Rosenberg and Laura Stylez, including taking live calls. That’s a schedule—one that contrasts sharply with podcasting, where shows are often recorded only two or three times per week.

In the video below, Joe Budden questions Ebro’s immediate move to YouTube. It’s an interesting moment and discussion on New York radio despite Budden’s colorful language. The January 5 announcement is clearly generating exactly the conversation The Block is aiming for.

Meanwhile some people are not fans of Ebro or Rosenberg…
