>Change Has Come to WRNB, Mo’Nique is Out

>107.9 WRNB Philadelphia is still an Urban AC station but may be patterning themselves after KRNB Dallas “105.7 the New R&B.” The station will now feature a music mix of R&B music from the 1990’s up to current R&B sounds. According to the station, research concluded that the Philadelphia radio listeners were asking for a more contemporary urban adult radio station instead of a traditional Urban AC.

The station will feature more artist like Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Babyface, Maxwell, Mary J Blige, Mint Condition, while WRNB’s playlist will no longer feature R&B from the 70’s and 80’s. With the format change comes a new line-up with the morning show and midday shows remaining the same with The Tom Joyner Morning Show and Mo’Shay Laren. Philly radio icon Lady B returns to afternoons from 3pm-7pm and DC Todd from 7pm to midinght with the Mo’Nique show dropped from the line-up. In these economic times, it’s interesting to note that Radio One would allow one of its stations to drop a syndicated show like The Mo’Nique Show, after chairman Alfred Liggins said that Mo’Nique would become a radio star.

The station is now known as “The New Sound of 107.9 WRNB, R&B of the 90’s and Today.” That’s a mouthful.

    >Whenever Lady B is on, they do the “Basement Party” from 5-7. Unless Bent Roc’s job as programmer for Gospel station WPPZ is taking up too much time, I see him continuing to ruin philly’s mix scene with his NYC oriented mixsets.
