Radio One Blows Up Tom Joyner & K-SOUL for Classic Hip Hop Boom 94.5

Over the weekend Radio One launched a new Classic Hip Hop format in the Dallas Fort Worth area as Boom 94.5. The format change saw the end of the Classic Soul and R&B format of K-Soul 94.5 (KSOC). Also with the change was the surprising end of the Tom Joyner Morning Show. The Reach Media program that is in partnership with Radio One is based in Dallas. The move seemed to come as a shock to Tom Joyner himself as he broadcast from the show’s studios in Texas. Back in January Radio One had re-launched the “K-Soul 94.5” format in  … Continue reading Radio One Blows Up Tom Joyner & K-SOUL for Classic Hip Hop Boom 94.5

Now More Than Just Old School — It’s Back to KSoul in Dallas

Radio One is re-introducing R&B music from the 90’s and today back into rotation on KSOC 94.5 to the Dallas market. The station also returns to it’s former name as KSoul. The station dropped current R&B music and exclusively played urban oldies as “Old School 94.5” in the Summer of 2011. Also before that transition midday host and former Salt-n-Pepa member Dee Dee “Spinderella” Roper was fired. Perhaps the negativity from that event has affected the station’s ratings as well. KSoul looks to raise its ranking while competing with “K104” KKDA-FM and Urban AC station KRNB “Smooth R&B 105.7” KRNB. The … Continue reading Now More Than Just Old School — It’s Back to KSoul in Dallas

Dallas Has Lost Radio Legend "Cuzzin’ Linnie"

From Dallas Observer It’s likely you never knew Linwood Henderson by his real name; few did. For decades, since the late 1960s, he was better known by his other name: Cuzzin’ Linnie, or Cousin Linnie to the uninitiated. His was an estimable career that stretched all the way from KLIF (when it was The Mighty 1190) during its go-go rock-n-pop days to KXXK (“For Groovy Grown-Ups”) to KKDA-AM (Soul 73, from which he and Al Lipscomb and John Wiley Price were unceremoniously dropped in 1998) to KNON. And he was the first disc jockey in Dallas to break radio’s color … Continue reading Dallas Has Lost Radio Legend "Cuzzin’ Linnie"
