Now More Than Just Old School — It’s Back to KSoul in Dallas

Radio One is re-introducing R&B music from the 90’s and today back into rotation on KSOC 94.5 to the Dallas market. The station also returns to it’s former name as KSoul. The station dropped current R&B music and exclusively played urban oldies as “Old School 94.5” in the Summer of 2011. Also before that transition midday host and former Salt-n-Pepa member Dee Dee “Spinderella” Roper was fired. Perhaps the negativity from that event has affected the station’s ratings as well. KSoul looks to raise its ranking while competing with “K104” KKDA-FM and Urban AC station KRNB “Smooth R&B 105.7” KRNB. The … Continue reading Now More Than Just Old School — It’s Back to KSoul in Dallas

Is Tom Joyner ready to retire?  We hear that Skip Murphy is gaining in popularity among listeners of the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Skip’s popularity has forced some changes at the TJMS. Skip took over the position as “the lead voice” on the syndicated morning show following Tom Joyner’s hip replacement surgery late last year. The Dallas radio veteran last week filled in for Tom, while the boss was on vacation and more than held down the fort. The Soul is Gone from Soul 73 KKDA Dallas

Bobby Patterson formerly of Soul 73 AM KKDA (Peter Calvin) KKDA Lays Off Bobby Patterson, Most Of Its On-Air Staff by ERIC GRUBBSDallasObserver.com- In my ten years of working in radio, I had many conversations with people who were unceremoniously let go. Formats flip, contracts aren’t renewed, or a big company gobbles up a small company and puts the long-timers out to pasture. Not really any different from layoffs in most fields, but in radio, it’s like the cops showing up and shutting down a party. From a lot of those long-timers, I heard plenty of “I don’t know what to … Continue reading The Soul is Gone from Soul 73 KKDA Dallas
