Sports Radio WFAN Begins New Era in their History With Broadcast on 101.9 FM

In it’s 25th Year WFAN Will Simulcast on FM in New York WFAN announced it would begin airing on 101.9 FM in addition to 660 AM at 12:01 a.m. Friday. CBS Radio announced the simulcast plan earlier this month but had not previously set a firm date for it to begin. Earlier this year ESPN New York 98.7 FM took over the former broadcast home of 98.7 Kiss FM in New York. CD 101.9 is Back on the Air in New York City

That’s if you have an HD Radio… Smooth jazz is back on the air in New York City at 101.9 FM. The station is a side channel on the new 101.9 New Rock. Merlin Media dropped its “all news” presentation earlier this month and switched to a new alternative rock format on its main FM signal. Now it has decided to drop the country format on its HD2 channel and return to the smooth jazz format of “CD 101.9” WQCD. New York’s “FM News 101.9” WEMP is now alternative “New Rock 101.9.” Chicago’s year-old WIQI becomes “Adult Hits i101.” Merlin CEO Randy Michaels says “It was a difficult decision to make, but after a year of minimal audience engagement, coupled with the format’s inherent expense, I felt it was time to make a change.” Jim Richards is interim operations manager of both stations. The return to the “New Rock” format mirrors the previous sounds on the 101.9 frequency (RXP New York Rock Experience).
