“Back when pictures were taken on actual cameras, radio was king, and nobody was arguing on the internet all day. I was young, thin and was simply enjoying my career. Life was so light back then. @claudiajordan & @tichinaarnold refuse to age. How they look the same 20 years later?!? 😍” – @kesha_monk
Kesha Monk was a midday host on the station known as 100.3 The Beat in Los Angeles (KKBT); originated on June 30, 2000, when Radio One acquired the station and moved the popular urban format from 92.3 The Beat to the 100.3 FM frequency. It replaced the “Mega 100” format following a frequency swap caused by a mergers-related divestiture involving Clear Channel (now known as iHeart) and AMFM Inc.
The station became KRBV-FM “V100, the Best Variety of R&B” in 2006 targeting an urban adult R&B contemporary audience, often featuring community-focused programming. Radio One sold the station in 2008 and subsequently changed formats, ending the V100 brand.
Between the two formats that aired on 100.3, Radio One’s air staff included the locally based Steve Harvey Morning Show, who refused to play gangsta rap on his show; The John Salley Block Party, Tom Joyner, Ananda Lewis, Michael Baisden, Wendy Williams, Cliff Winston, John Monds, Free just to name a few. Kesha Monk is now one of the most sought after voice over artists in the industry.
