Social media is often a cesspool of nonsense, but when radio-related content shows up on our Instagram timeline, we sometimes can’t help but go down the rabbit hole. Radio remains a go-to form of media for many people, trusted for context, commentary, and perspective—yet now social media places those conversations side by side with anyone who has a phone, an account, and a following.
Several days ago, a woman posted a profanity-filled rant on Instagram complaining about snow removal in her neighborhood. In her video, she placed much of the blame on Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker for the lack of plowing on her street. For reasons that aren’t entirely clear, the algorithm began heavily promoting her content—not just to us, but to users across the platform. (One has to wonder why this particular video was pushed so aggressively.)
What’s striking is how easily one person can build an audience online and feel their voice carries the same weight as well-established media personalities. That reality became evident when the video reached podcaster and former rapper Gillie of Million Dollarz Worth of Game and Radio One afternoon personality Lady B of Classix 107.9.
The woman appeared more than ready for the attention, especially after Lady B shared her opinion on-air, pushing back against the woman’s anger toward Mayor Parker. Gillie also weighed in, posting his own response on Instagram that similarly refuted the woman’s claims and redirected blame away from the mayor.
Ultimately, this situation highlights how quickly emotionally charged content can spread when social media algorithms and voices that have a few thousand followers intersect. It also underscores the evolving media landscape—where traditional outlets like radio continue to shape public discourse, even as social platforms empower individuals to believe their perspectives are just as influential, for better or worse.
We can’t possibly post the stuff from Instagram here! We can’t sully our site. Links are below if you choose to partake. Wondering if the Viral Snow Lady from North Philly thinks of 107.9 as her P1. 🙄
Last words from Gillie and this is how it should end hopefully. But we have a feeling it’s not going to end there.
