The “war of words” heated up after Michelle Beadle criticized Smith and even said she was praying for his downfall, while Cari Champion publicly backed Beadle and questioned whether Smith had the same energy for white women colleagues that he has shown toward Black women like Hill and others. Smith responded on his own platforms, telling Champion she should be “ashamed” and claiming he was largely responsible for her getting hired and thriving on “First Take,” which many observers saw as him taking ownership of her career.
