105.3 WDAS Patty Jackson Responds to Listener Disappointment in Their Throwbacks Music

A recent Instagram post from a listener of Philadelphia’s beloved R&B station, 105.3 WDAS FM, caught attention after he shared his disappointment upon tuning in expecting classic throwbacks his parents used to vibe to—only to hear newer artists like Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and others instead. Hoping for timeless soul hits from the ’70s, ’80s, or ’90s, he expressed frustration that the playlist leaned more contemporary, even joked that the surprise made his back hurt.

Longtime on-air host Patty Jackson took note of the post and responded with understanding, explaining that while WDAS honors its rich musical legacy, it also blends in modern R&B to reflect the evolving taste of its diverse audience.

Patty decided to invite the listener, Rell Brown, into the studio. He may have been expecting the version of Patty Jackson from earlier in her career—back when she regularly played the classic soul songs he was hoping to hear on WDAS-FM.

Here are the results…

What do you think? Is Ne-Yo a throwback artist?
