>Smooth Jazz WJJZ Dies Again in Philly

>

At 6 pm ET, Greater Media dropped the smooth jazz format on 97.5 WJJZ in Philadelphia. It signed off after Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love to You,” with a reference to a weekend of great music to follow and a new format on Monday morning.

Smooth Jazz aired on WJJZ at 106.1 until Clear Channel dumped the format Aug. 10, 2006, after 13 years. Greater Media picked up the format on Nov. 17, 2006, and relocated smooth jazz to the 97.5 frequency along with moving the transmitter from Central New Jersey to a location closer to Philadelphia. In the end, none of it matter as the Smooth Jazz continues to be dumped across the nation. The format has lost stations in New York, Baltimore, and Washington, DC in recent months.
