KDKA Radio’s Chris Moore Announces Retirement After 30+ Years

After more than 30 years on KDKA Radio, Chris Moore has announced his retirement. He shared the news during his Sunday afternoon show, saying his final broadcast will air February 15.

Moore cited ongoing health and mobility issues, along with recent winter weather, as factors in his decision. A weekend staple on KDKA since 1994, “The Moore of Pittsburgh” was known for thoughtful discussions on local, national, and everyday issues.

In addition to his radio career, Moore is an Emmy-winning producer and longtime host at WQED, where he created and contributed to numerous documentaries focused on civil rights, history, and Pittsburgh’s Black community. Last year, he was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Gold Circle for more than 50 years of service in broadcasting.

Moore’s career began in 1972 and includes work in television, radio, and journalism across several cities, with more than four decades in Pittsburgh. He is also a founder and co-chair of the Frank Bolden Urban Journalism Workshop and has received numerous honors, including the Key to the City of Pittsburgh and the August Wilson House Legacy Award.
