Roland Martin strongly criticized Vibe Magazine for publishing a “fake” story about Dame Dash being appointed chairman of Revolt TV based on Dash’s claims made on The Breakfast Club. Martin called it for what it was, a major journalistic failure. Martin pointed out that Vibe, a Black target media platform, ran the “exclusive story” without independently confirming the news with Revolt or its CEO. As we said, they relied solely on statements made by Dame Dash and his team. Would you see something like this in Variety or The Hollywood Reporter?
Mind you VIBE Magazine has a degree of credibility in the Hip Hop/Black community since it was a venture created by Quincy Jones in partnership with Time Warner. The magazine’s first issue was published in 1993. It was an iconic magazine brand. It is now owned by PMC Penske Media Corporation; the same company that owns Variety, THR The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Rolling Stone and Billboard.
One media reporter that didn’t just run with Dame Dash’s words was The Breakast Club co-host Loren Lorosa.
We jump time in the segment where Roland Martin explains the danger in Black targeted media posted fake stories. Vibe did take out down the fake story.
