This is an example of what has made Twitter a toxic place. And some are all for it. Ebro Darden who host Ebro in the Morning on Hot 97 and also host Rap Life Review on the Apple Music platform on YouTube with Nadeska and Lowkey discussed the origin of the Childish Gambino track “This is America.” Following the discussion, XXL posted a story on the exchange resulting in a quote tweet from Ebro.
And this is where the fun begins…
This is out of context.
Drake doesn’t have to. Nor should he if he doesn’t feel it.
But to say “This is America” is overrated and over awarded when that song came at a time when people needed someone to say something.
And he doesn’t feel the need to.
That’s all. https://t.co/WxgvqJqbxn

Ebro addressed the issue on his morning show on Hot 97. Where is the controversy?
Well @marclamonthill I was responding to Drake saying “This is America” is overrated and over-awarded.
That song made people feel something at an important moment.
And to slam that song when you never say anything is wack to me https://t.co/BZa1rbVhWt

Ebro never demanded that Drake be an advocate. His critique of Drake’s relative silence on Black issues was in response to Drake’s criticism of “This Is America.” You can be silent, @oldmanebro is saying, but the silence becomes relevant when you respond to someone who speaks out https://t.co/nlgU7VLeeE

Then twitter verse then went in on Marc Lamont Hill, where he was accused of being “mendacious” and “obfuscating” the issue. Who knew that Hill was being called a liar in a nice way?
Prof Hill is being mendacious. In another tweet, he said that there is an “expectation” of those having a platform to say something on these issues. Be a rapper, Prof. Hill and “keep it real” instead of trying to obfuscate. We all know what you really think U don’t hide it
