Russell Simmons Still Doesn’t Get It …That was Harriet Tubman!

But there’s still hope for Russell  In the following interview Russell Simmons seems to not be giving the seriousness to the topic at hand as he should… Watch. Yes Russell you have apologized… but you do have daughters and nieces that are or will become women of African American ancestry. What did you say to them or might say in the future? Russell you chose to give your first interview regarding this controversy to an interviewer from another You Tube content partner. Really Russell? Still promoting!?! (shrug) (huh?) This is not an entertainment story. This controversy warranted an interview by … Continue reading Russell Simmons Still Doesn’t Get It …That was Harriet Tubman!

Why Did Russell Simmons Get a Pass? Removes Offensive Harriet Tubman Video

Didn’t you expect more from Russell? We did after the announcement was made a few weeks ago that Russell had entered into a joint venture to bring original programming to YouTube. Not only does it seem that Mr. Simmons is getting off easily, the lack of controversy surrounding this irresponsible misstep from the “so-called leaders of the community” is deafening. Does it make sense for Russell Simmons to promote this kind of programming after penning an open letter to CNN’s Don Lemon? In the letter titled “Don’s a Lemon: Before You Go Back on CNN This Weekend, Read This!”, Simmons … Continue reading Why Did Russell Simmons Get a Pass? Removes Offensive Harriet Tubman Video

Nielsen Reports: Radio is Still Where Most Americans Hear New Music First

Surprised? … But it looks like YouTube is gaining  REUTERS – Video hasn’t yet killed the radio star after all, although YouTube has taken over as the place where most teens listen to music, according to a report released on Tuesday. Nielsen’s Music 360 report found that radio is still the place where most people (48 percent) discover new music, compared to just 7 percent for YouTube. But once they have found it, 64 percent of teens listen to music through YouTube, the popular video-sharing website owned by Google Inc . >YouTube Launches a New Music Page

> YouTube can be a blessing and a curse for music fans, simply because endless music video selection also invites poor quality, redundancy, and chaos. Vevo has trimmed the weeds considerably, but YouTube took another healthy step forward this week. At youtube.com/music, fans can now find some lightly-curated content, as well as simple organization by views and genres. This is not a revolutionary statement on music, but merely an easy way to find some favorites. And, once the user dives into a category, the relatively-new autoplay (and shuffle) feature invites discovery and radio-like listening while multi-tasking. That offers a serious … Continue reading >YouTube Launches a New Music Page

>Cheyney University Students Respond to Negative Media Coverage

>As a result of an on-campus fight that took place last week at Cheyney University just outside Philadelphia, students respond to local media coverage. Most likely the only reason the story was covered at all on television is because cell phone video of the fight showed up on YouTube. Another example of how the Internet influences the things and events that are considered news. That however is a completely different story from this one. The problem I have is that media, be it local TV stations or even Black websites; never cover any positive stories about Black colleges. We only … Continue reading >Cheyney University Students Respond to Negative Media Coverage

>The President Elect Obama will use YouTube to talk to the nation

> Here’s Barack Obama’s address to the nation from Saturday. President Elect Barack Obama will continue the practice of addressing the nation on Saturday morning by using the services of YouTube and other well known sites after he becomes President. The now traditional Saturday morning presidential radio address will go a step further with online video. President Ronald Reagan started the weekly radio address in the 1980s and the idea was adopted by Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Reagan – who did radio in the Midwest as a young man, before his Hollywood career took off – found the … Continue reading >The President Elect Obama will use YouTube to talk to the nation
